Farhan Shahmi, Research Consultant

Farhan Shahmi Abdullah serves as a Research Consultant at Chasseur Group, where he provides specialised analysis on digital information environments and emerging online threats. Currently pursuing an MPhil in Sociology at the University of Cambridge as a UK FCDO Chevening Scholar (2024-2025), Farhan's research examines political campaigning and digital persuasion tactics on emerging platforms, with particular focus on TikTok during Malaysia's 15th General Election. His expertise includes:

  • OSINT and Digital Verification Expertise: As an experienced open-source intelligence practitioner, Farhan specialises in tracking misinformation, coordinated inauthentic behaviour (CIB), and hate speech across digital platforms, having contributed to projects with Graphika Inc., Amnesty International's Digital Verification Corps, and FaqCheck Malaysia.

  • Media Literacy Advocacy: Drawing on his background in human rights campaigning, Farhan champions media literacy as an essential skill for youth in combating misinformation and hate speech, developing frameworks for critical information consumption in digital environments.
