Munira Mustaffa, Executive Director

Munira Mustaffa is the founder and Executive Director of Chasseur Group, as well as its principal consultant. She is a security practitioner and researcher with expertise in intelligence, counterterrorism, and countering violent extremism (CVE). After obtaining her Masters at University College London (UCL), she has worked professionally in the security industry, encompassing the private, public, and military sectors. She previously served as a counter-terrorism analyst for the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-terrorism (SEARCCT) and as a civilian analyst for the Counterterrorism Division at the Defense Intelligence Staff Division (now known as the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation, MDIO). She is a nonresident fellow at Washington D.C.’s New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy, a recipient of the 2023 visiting fellowship to the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) The Hague, and a fellow at Verve Research — an independent research collective focused on the relationship between militaries and societies in Southeast Asia. Her work and assessments on terrorism, extremism, militant group operations, and information warfare have been published by the ICCT, NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence (STRATCOMCOE), Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET) Insights, New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy, Lowy Institute, and Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI). She has been quoted by Reuters, Vice, the South China Morning Post (SCMP), Arab News, Al Jazeera, NBC News, and The Wall Street Journal.
